What You Can Do

Hydrotherapy

To relieve cramping, many women find one or more of the following hydrotherapies to be useful:

Sitz Baths - Sit for 20-30 minutes in a tub of hot water, and gradually increase the temperature. Maintain the temperature during the entire time by gradually letting in more hot water. The water should be deep enough to cover the hip joints and part of the lower abdomen.   Add some essential oils (aromatherapy) to the tub, such as marjoram, lavender , sandalwood or verbena. Circulation will increase to these areas and it will help to remove dead cells and salts, which will decrease blood pressure, relax smooth muscle (including the blood vessels, lymph vessels, bladder and digestive tract), and increase nerve function, and relax the muscles.

Local hot applications - place a heating pad or hot water bottle (always use moist heat) over the affected area and cover for 20 minutes. Hot applications are used to increase circulation and promote nutrient delivery, while clearing of metabolic wastes and relaxing muscles.
