Several recent studies reveal some alarming news about acetaminophen, which is the active ingredient in the painkillers Tylenol, Anacin and Panadol.
Higher rates of asthma: Children given acetaminophen were 60 percent more likely to suffer from asthma, while adults were 75 percent more likely to experience asthma. This is the result of a University of British-Columbia review published in the journal Chest.
Greater rates of hearing loss and vision problems: In the March 2010 issue of the American Journal of Medicine, you’ll find an analysis of data of 26,000 men who participated in the Health Professionals Follow-up Study. Research determined that men younger than 60 were an astounding 61 percent more likely to experience hearing loss.
The journal Drug Safety revealed studies have linked acetaminophen to adverse vision event.
Liver failure: According to the U.S. Acute Liver Failure Study Group, acetaminophen poisoning is the leading cause of liver failure in the nation. It has been associated with nearly 50 percent of all failures.

Dr. Chad’s reaction:
As these studies continue to pour in, you can expect some sort of return fire from the drug industries, and likely even the FDA. My contention is that where there’s smoke, there’s fire. According to these studies, we’ve got a full-scale bonfire raging here.
