Many of you may already know that there is a huge recall of peanut and other nut butters happening right now. This all started when a peanut butter product sold at Trader Joe’s was linked to a salmonella outbreak. Since that time, the recall has expanded to 76 types of peanut butter, almond butter and cashew butters, tahini and roasted blanched products made or manufactured by the New Mexico-based Sunland Inc.
Here is a complete list of the recalled products.
The recall is on products with BEST BY DATES between May 1, 2013 and September 24, 2013, so be sure and check your labels.
Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps 12-72 hours after infection. It is most dangerous to children, the elderly and others with weak immune systems. The illness usually lasts for 4-7 days and most people recover without treatment. However, in some people severe diarrhea and other complications can develop that may require hospitalization. If you suspect salmonella poisoning, be sure and talk with your health care provider to get checked out.
We’ll keep you posted.
